The serial rapist, who had female students in Utrecht in a stranglehold of fear some years ago, formed the starting point for Ineke Houtman's first thriller. In Stille nacht, a disguised man assaults lone students on bicycles in a dim park. The police are powerless and five students decide to take the initiative. They assemble a committee, initially to urge the authorities to take more action, but gradually they get absorbed in the phenomenon more and more and try to unveil the sex offender's identity on their own. During their search, which brings with it quite some anxieties and disappointments, they also gain a better insight into themselves, each other and their attitude towards men. The carefully built up tension is released in a violent and surprising finale.
