Multimedia storytelling platform collects personal stories and witness accounts of the inhabitants of war-stricken Aleppo, who try to restore their normal lives.
In the short stories in Notes from Aleppo, photographer Issa Touma shows the painstaking efforts by the residents of Aleppo to restore their daily lives and repair the damage caused by the war. It is an interactive multimedia storytelling platform, taking the visitor along on a voyage of (re)discovery across Aleppo. Due to international dissension, financial means of foreign powers are no longer available, and those of the government are all but depleted after seven years of conflict. The personal stories Touma captures show that the post-war reconstruction all comes down to the citizens themselves.

Notes from Aleppo has been nominated for the Interactive of the Year award of the 2019 edition of World Press Photo. And the project was part of the pop-up exhibition Shellshock, in the Amsterdam Eye Film Museum.
