In this documentary, we follow Nikki for five years, when she goes from the safe primary school to secondary school. She is smart and talented, but has an absent father and a mother with borderline and depressions.
Nikki is contending with separation anxiety and attachment issues and lacks structure in life. Her mother Karin (51) has borderline issues and a history of substance abuse. Nikki's father Fred (41) is notably absent in Nikki’s life, dealing with his own addiction issues. Sometimes he suddenly appears on her doorstep, before disappearing again for months. This documentary follows Nikki’s perspective. And when she can’t express her feelings well, we see animations based on her drawings.
