For Mr. Schoevaart, Ajax always comes first. Mrs. Schoevaart does not share his love of the soccer club. This portrait of the couple is about love, loneliness, sacrifice and reflection.
Wim Schoevaart used to be the archivist of Ajax, the soccer club he was a member of since 1930 and an honorary member since 1988. Filmmaker Colette Teurlings got to know the elderly man as her upstairs neighbour. She found out that Mrs. Schoevaart did not share his love of Ajax, especially because the club always came first. Teurlings made an intimate portrait of the couple that seemed to have lost each other completely. After Schoevaart’s sudden death, his widow has more room for her feelings and her love of him slowly returns.
