Which consequences can wrong choices at a young age have? This is the question addressed in this documentary about director Herbert Curiël. As a child of a father who was a member of the Dutch national socialist movement, 15-year-old Curiël wound up with the Kriegsmarine, after being rejected by the SS. For a long time, he kept believing in the victory of the Third Reich. Only later, Curiël found out what had happened in the concentration camps. Het also discovered he has Jewish ancestors. The film shows how Curiël, now 87, struggles with his past.
