Five-part television series about a fairly unknown episode in Dutch colonial history. The series is situated in Atjeh, the Dutch East Indies at the turn of the century, where manpower and natural resources were exploited in the economic and political interest of colonial Holland. It is 1898. A Dutch patrol gets lost on an oil expedition in the jungle of Atjeh. Sapped by the lack of food and the bloody battle with Moslem rebels, the soldiers try to get back to camp. This tragedy, as the expedition becomes, focuses on two young men and their aspirations. One is an ambitious geologist in search of oil the other is a professional soldier looking for rehabilitation.
