This documentary reveals how Marina Abramović's first performance in Amsterdam was censored fifty years ago. Now, Abramović is a superstar with a headline-grabbing exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum. But new generations of artists, such as Basma al-Sharif, an artist with Palestinian roots, still face difficulties: incomprehension, marginalisation and outright suppression. The documentary poses a seemingly simple, but multi-layered question: who decides what we see? Featuring unique archive material and exclusive interviews, including with Marina Abramović herself.
During the premiere on Sunday, 27 September, a live performance by Palestinian-Syrian artist Ahmad Mallah will take place on stage following the screening. Yalla Tnam (يالله تنام) is a ritual performance in which voice, movement, grief, care, and resilience come together. For the premiere of Final Cut, Mallah will present a solo excerpt from the original work, with live vocals and sound processing at the heart of the experience.
