On 13 May 1927, the Amsterdam artists' club De Kring screened the film The Mother by Pudovkin, that had been banned as being 'revolutionary propaganda'. That same evening the Dutch Film League was formed. It's aim was to support artistic films that did not get into the cinemas for political or commercial reasons. De nacht van de 4 hoeden (The Night of the Four Hats) is a short film based on photos about this tumultuous evening. A reconstruction of events based on historical material.
