Amsterdam, the seventies. The handsome grammar school student Klaas, the son of a wealthy lemonade producer, decides to go into hash trafficking along with his friend, kick boxer Adri. Adroitly, they take over the business of the black American Hugo. The latter's aide Annet becomes Klaas' girlfriend. The money pours in and is stashed away in rubbish bags. Klaas wants to do business without using violence, but the richer he gets, the more he gets entangled in the brutal criminal scene. The film was inspired by the life of criminal Klaas Bruinsma, who was eliminated in 1991 and modelled on Bart Middelburg's book De dominee from 1993, dealing with the rise and fall of Bruinsma. Apart from describing the 'scene' in the seventies and eighties, the film particularly depicts the character development of the hash dealer and his incapacity for loyalty and friendship. Awarded a Golden Calf Production Design and a Golden Film.
