Portrait of foster home with six foster children shows how foster parents are the pivot in a web of parents, authorities and foster children, striking a happy medium between emotions and professionalism.

In the Netherlands, some twenty thousand children have been placed under a care order. And eight hundred of them live in one of almost two hundred foster homes. Miriam and Frans Erlings run one with six foster children, two of whom now live on their own. Every day, Miriam and Frans have to strike a happy medium between emotional involvement with the children and the business sides of a household.
