León Fernández has been working with puppets, special effects and animation for 13 years, and he headed the puppet department for Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, currently in post-production. Emma de Swaef drew acclaim with her first animated film Oh Willy... in 2011 and was asked last year to take on part of the darkly comical Netflix animation The House. Mascha Halberstad has her own animation studio and is currently making waves internationally with the first Dutch stop-motion animation feature Knor.
We’ll be discussing the role of puppet animation in the contemporary film industry, and how it can operate in the context of today’s intense demand for fast content.
