It’s every screenwriter’s dream: a big series on TV or one of the streaming services. Find out what skills you need to make the dream come true during the Middag van het Scenario (screenplay afternoon). Guided by celebrated screenwriters, you will explore the future of the field and delve into some fascinating case studies.

The afternoon is dedicated to the theme of ‘continue watching’. How do you translate topical issues into stories that appeal to an audience? What’s it like to write as a duo? And how can we train new screenplay talent for series?

How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast)
Draw inspiration from the success story of the German makers Philipp Käßbohrer and Matthias Murmann, screenwriters and producers of their own series. What’s their experience of collaborating with streaming services? And how do they handle the pressures of a hit series?

Writing in a team
How is the success of streaming services affecting the approach of traditional broadcasters? We’ll be exploring answers with Salma Chafouk Idrissi and Zainab Goelaman (Katwalk, NPO), and Martin van Steijn and Ingrid van Berkum (Hockeyvaders, Videoland), and hearing how writing duos work together as a team.

Budding talent
The writers of the kids’ series Tentje Plof (EO) share their experiences of the training programme NPO-Team Up. Led by head writer Tijs van Marle, novice screenwriters worked in a writers’ room. When you’re starting out as a screenwriter, what responsibilities can you expect to be given? As a head writer, how do you deal with different voices? And where else can new makers develop their careers?
