Dag van het Scenario

A film is written three times: once by a screenwriter, once on set, and once in editing. During this edition of de Dag van het Scenario (the Day of the Screenplay), a screenwriter, a film composer, and an editor will show you how they work and what makes their work distinctive, based on a filmed script.

Writing with images

What is an editor's writing process? What choices does an editor make and why? How can there be immense differences between the original screenplay and the final picture lock?

Using several versions of the same scene, editor Wies Hundling explains the choices an editor makes. Step by step, she takes you through the creative process of an editor, which is surprisingly similar to the creative process of a screenwriter. Where one writes with words, the other writes with images.

How to use the three dimensions of screenwriting to get your film & TV projects made and reach a wider audience… without following prescriptive rules!
With Emmanuel Oberg

In this keynote, Emmanuel Oberg introduces powerful and flexible tools for both film and TV writing. The presentation is for anyone who has felt stuck while developing a project or wishes to shed the constraints of conventional screenwriting theories, whether you’re a screenwriter, producer, story editor, creator, or showrunner. The goal is to reclaim your creative freedom, get unstuck, and deliver stronger screenplays.

In part 1, Oberg helps us understand why most approaches to story structure have little to do with actual structure, leading to different, but not necessarily stronger drafts. In part 2, you are invited to explore the difference between logistical format and dramatic structure. Learn the importance of mystery, surprise, dramatic irony and suspense to manage information. Finally, Oberg teaches us how to develop stronger film and TV projects, increase their chances of getting made, and reach a wider audience, both nationally and internationally.

Emmanuel Oberg is a screenwriter, author and creative consultant with over twenty-five years of experience in the film and TV industry, worldwide. After selling a feature screenplay to Warner Bros, he has written for StudioCanal, Working Title / Universal, Gold Circle and Film4. He is the founder of Screenplay Unlimited and the author of the bestselling Story-Type Method series of books on screenwriting and script development.

Finally, at the end of the day, Zilveren Krulstaarten and, in cooperation with the ANV (Algemeen Nederlands Verbond), the Visser-Neerlandiaprijs for Scenario will be awarded.
