Film about three friends in a fishing village where there is little to do. One of the friends comes up with a hairbrained plan to escape from the narrow-minded milieu.
Film about three friends in a fishing village on an island in Zeeland. The conservative village offers little more than the church services and the boring annual mussel feast. Leen, Daan and Jacob break out of the rut with bike racing, their own rock band and wild parties at the motorbike club. The hard-man Leen, leader of the three, wants to escape from the narrow-minded milieu where his mother's love threatens to suffocate him. After a strange meeting with an Irishman , he hatches the plan to leave for Ireland with his make-believe girlfriend. With his friends, Leen daydreams about taking part in the motorbike race in Ostend and a CD recording for their band. However they don't have the money and Leen thinks up a hairbrained scheme to get some. He drags his friends along. Wild Mussels was shot entirely in the dialect of Zeeland.
