Autonomous Robert Altman film telling the tragic story of the painter Vincent van Gogh. But Vincent & Theo mainly concentrates on the love/hate relationship between Vincent and his brother Theo, who often helped him. The role of the artist's family, friends and girlfriends is also illuminated, as are the quarrels and reconciliations. Johanna ter Steege plays the role of Jo Bonger, Theo's wife.
