Documentary about five elderly women who were imprisoned during World War in the women's concentration camp at Ravensbrück. The five from Holland, Austria, Russia and Italy are increasingly confronted with the past through growing xenophobia in Europe. Present Past listens to them and uses recent news footage and historical archive material to link past and present. The five women talk openly about their often shocking experiences and compare these with events in their lives today. Because, as one of them states in the film: 'Only when you realise what happened, you can prevent a repetition.'
