Fairy-like tragicomedy about a farmer from Zeeland who after the 1953 floods is fed up with getting his socks wet. He takes his bike and pedals to the Italian south, starts a tulip farm and grows into a legend.
After losing his farm during the floods of 1953, Gauke, a romantic farmer from Zeeland, decides he never wants to get his socks wet again. He gets on his bike and just keeps pedalling until he ends up in a South-Italian village. Here he starts his new, improved life and miraculously grows tulips that cheer up the drab rocky surroundings. In his new environment, Gauke grows into a living legend. Thirty years later, an Italian police inspector tries to find out what happened to the Dutch farmer, in this fairy-like tragicomedy.
