1918 feature is an adaptation of the play by A.W.G. van Riemsdijk. The happy family life of Sylvia (played by Annie Bos) and the composer Pietro is disrupted when Sylvia loses her sight and her sister Lyda, who comes to help around the house, falls in love with her husband. The tragic end of the film was denounced by the Catholic Church at the time.
