In the 1970s, the Cold War is at its peak. The British MI6 intelligence service has evidence suggesting one of their best spies works for the Russians. Espionage veteran George Smiley, who was previously reluctantly pensioned off, is called in to investigate who is the mole in this stylish John le Carré adaptation, shot in subdued tones. The film is not only an ingenious thriller, but also offers a glimpse into the oppressive retro world of the secret service. Suspicion, paranoia and lonely old men in grey suits.
