This adventure film is e very loose adaptation of Jan de Hartog's trilogy God's geuzen. A newly graduated doctor arrives in Batavia (now Jakarta), where he is to become assistant to a well-known leprosy doctor. The film was largely panned by Dutch critics, but was well received in the USA.
