The Last Hole on the Flute

The Last Hole on the Flute begins with a scientific explanation of the functioning of the human ear, and the damage that exposure to too many decibels may cause. Cut to the next scene, in which a man has hidden his ear in the bell of a trumpet, which is blown with great passion and vigour by another man. In essence, this describes the bond the Serbian Roma have with music. Using only a few words, but a singular photography, the film shows how strong this bond is. 'The Last hole on the Flute' is an old Serbian saying referring to a 'loser'. Gypsies regularly use it to express their frustration; with the society they live in and with their own lives. Still, it is precisely this misery and hardship that constitutes the source of inspiration for gypsy music.
