Double portrait of psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud and his biographer Peter Swales. Apart from Freud's childhood and Swales' career until his first contact with Freud's work, the film focuses on Swales' investigation of Freud's alleged relationship with his sister-in-law. Finally, the Freud collection in the Library of Congress in Washington is addressed. The film alternates archive footage with historical reconstructions and interviews with Swales and others.
