The common starling’s flight is phenomenal. It is still unknown how thousands of birds are able to fly in such dense swarms without colliding. Every night at dusk, the starlings gather to perform their stunning air show. Owing to the relatively warm winter of 2014/15, the sparrows stayed in the Netherlands instead of migrating further southwards. This gave Jan van IJken the opportunity to extensively capture this spectacular natural phenomenon.
