During the summer nights many sailing boats cross the canals of Amsterdam. While the city is asleep, a bridgekeeper guides them through.
When the city sleeps, the bridgeman emerges to shepherd pleasure boats through the canals. While lights sparkle fairy-like on the water surface, he opens his first bridge. Then, he jumps on his motorbike to go and unbolt new bridges. Until the sun rises again. De Vries plays with fast motion, so that boats glide weightlessly across the surface and the bridgeman's night seems to pass before our eyes in real time.
