Controversial film by Verhoeven about the ambition and oppurtunism of contemporary youth.
Rough movie, drenched in violence and sex, about a group of young people threading their way through life. Three friends want to become motocross racers and all fall for the girl of the fish and chips stand. One of the boys has an accident, after which he is paralysed and eventually commits suicide. After the screenplay was rejected for funding, a second expurgated version was approved. With the obtained financial support, however, Verhoeven made the film on the basis of the original script, including an anal rape scene. The film critics blasted the movie, but nowadays it is considered an adequate portrait of the 1980s.
