The Schilderwijk neighbourhood in The Hague used to be the largest working-class neighbourhood in Europe. The maximum number of houses was once built there for the minimum outlay. For thirty years, an large-scale urban renewal programme has been in place. Whole blocks are demolished to make way for new building. This has consequences for the social ties. In addition, as in urban areas like this, there is an enormous influx of immigrants from all parts of the world. What is life like in the country's most densely populated building site?
