This documentary shows developments in the self-portraits of Rembrandt van Rijn over a period of forty years. His first portraits were proud and self-assured, while the figures in the later paintings seem old and sad. The blending self-portraits show unrelenting decay. Haanstra shows that Rembrandt painted himself unashamedly as he was.
