After 20 years, filmmaker Maria Ramos travels back to Rio de Janeiro, the city of her childhood. There, she takes a train from Campo Grande to Central do Brasil, the big central station of Rio de Janeiro. En route, she meets people who take this route every day to work: a nurse, a refrigeration mechanic, a cleaning woman and two boys who sell banana sweets on the train. At a quiet pace, the film presents an image of life in this city via the main characters. It is just a day in August, but in the meantime big issues are addressed: the two boys talk about their absent fathers, the nurse helps deliver a baby, the cleaning woman calmly tells her employer how her husband lost his life and the mechanic turns out to be a music lover.
