Before Roelof Kiers joined the VPRO - and distinctly influenced the revival of this broadcaster's documentaries - he worked for AVRO TV. In a news item shot for AVRO's Televizier, Kiers risked his life registering street fights during racial riots in Detroit in 1967. Kiers walks around with his cameraman and reports on the events, but is regularly forced to hide in doorways from the violence.
