Rhythmically edited documentary gives an impression of the Netherlands where tradition and progress co-exist. A miller turns the sail arms of his mill into the wind. A captain hoists his sail. Holland combats the elements but uses them too. They have brought the Netherlands its prosperity. In earlier centuries, as is visible in the old cities, but still today when mammoth ocean steamers are constructed in shipyards. In 1959, the film won the Golden Bear in Berlin and the State Award for Film during the Arnhem Film Week.
