Visual artist Renée Kool is fascinated by the way the world is represented and idealised in 19th-century Panoramas and peep shows, but also in contemporary new media. For Overvecht zo tussen '64 en '76, she experimented with a new film genre she invented herself: the 3D documentary. Using a specially designed computer model, she partly 'rebuilt' Overvecht on the basis of old maps of the public space and specific buildings. Adorned with photographs of (former) residents, she realised virtual spaces that are easily recognisable for the older inhabitants of Overvecht that Kool interviewed. They were the pioneers who in the 1960s were the first inhabitants of the high-rise apartments that modern urban developers with utopian expectations had built. What were their expectations and desires? What was the difference between their new living environment and the old neighbourhoods they had left? 3D and visual animations: Paul van der Meer, Marcel van Nispen, Evert Hilhorst, Joey Grant, Jos Wabeke.
