A film following the construction of a double bass, made for the Stichting Donateurs Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest. Master violin-builder Jaap Bolink makes a bass for Thomas Braamstrap, double-bass player with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. Under the motto 'you can't have a great player without a great instrument', the film shows the construction of the instrument in five brief chapters: the musician, the wood, the measurements, the form and the sound.
