Henri Plaat started the Other Thoughts series in 1980 in black-and-white and without sound: a quiet poem about various places around the world. To part two he added sound, and the sequel had music. In Other Thoughts IV, Plaat largely switches to colour. Like the previous films, it consists of a series of portraits with serene images as its binding element. The editing is determined by image and atmosphere. Plaat shot the footage during his travels.
