Director René van ’t Erve captured the genesis of his own idea: the performance of an opera in Floradorp, Amsterdam, by the inhabitants of this quarter. From the auditions, soloists Rinus, Anne, Frans and Mario are followed: during singing lessons with vocal coach Marianne, during rehearsals, but also in their daily lives. Not only do we see the opera slowly materialise; we also get to see more and more of the people performing the opera. Their life stories are told with a strong dose of Amsterdam-style humour and sense of perspective.
