Love is an industry, too. De Filippijnse bruid follows a broker in Philippine girls and a Dutch man looking for a wife. Director Michiel van Erp is very present in his documentary. He continually appears before the camera, travels along to the Philippines, asks the man what he looks for in a woman (`not liberated, someone who's prepared to do everything for you'), takes a swim with the candidates and retires with the future bride to hear if she thinks she will really become happy with this man. The girls are telephoned by the marriage broker and have to leave work to be introduced to the man that may change their lives. Is she the one, or is she not? No, she is not quite, but the next day she is. They are summoned once again. It seems quite a bleak trade, because the girls are just commodities. On the other hand, they are also hoping for a better life.
