Twenty-six-year-old Olivier is born with an incurable heart defect. He has come to accept an early death. When a doctor appears to be able to cure his condition, Olivier is confronted with a future he never had.
Olivier was born with only one ventricle, a physical defect which usually causes someone to die before he is thirty. Olivier is 26 and gradually developed a way to deal with this situation. His way of 'conquering death' is to enjoy life to the fullest while it lasts. But then, Olivier's life changes radically when a doctor appears to be able to cure his heart by means of surgery. The operation is successful. The people around him are obviously extremely relieved, but Olivier is confronted with a future he never had and an environment that suddenly looks at him with changed expectations. Nothing in life seems to be free of obligations anymore. Olivier feels a victim now that he is cured, because to him life is much harder than the death he had practically already embraced.
