Animals are just like people. Even pigs, rats and birds are able to show character. If they have just learned a new trick and are then confronted with a surprise turn, they each react in their own way. It is striking that two general character types can be distinguished among all social animals: the cautious, investigative type and the restless, direct type. Both are equally common and are essential to the continuation of the species.
