Four short documentaries examining the element of truth in four ancient stories from different parts of the Netherlands. Episode 1, entitled Fourteen Days on an Ice Floe, tells of the barren journey of three fishermen in what was known as the Zuiderzee (now the IJsselmeer). The second episode The Drowned Village of Beulake concentrates on the effects of peat digging in the province of Overijssel. Part 3, entitled Lost in the Marlpits, is about four priests in the labyrinth of South Limburg's Sint Pietersberg and The Devil of Earnewald, the fourth and last part of the series, shows a quest in contemporary Friesland for a 19th-century ghost.
