In the distant future, a peace-loving princess has to fight ecological disaster and threats of war. Early and influential masterpiece by the founder of animation studio Ghibli, also called 'the Japanese Disney'.

Very early film by anime master Hayao Miyazaki, who used the proceeds to found his famous Studio Ghibli. In a post-apocalyptic future, the world has fallen apart into several kingdoms, but is still threatened by ecological damage. A pacifist princess willy-nilly gets involved in the conflict, but possesses enough fighting spirit to enter the battle for the cause. Miyazaki adapted his own manga series in what in many respects is a precursor of his eulogised Princess Mononoke, containing all the typical elements: a fearless heroine, thrilling flying scenes, gorgeous visual designs, an ecological message, plus top-level animation.
