The inhabitants of the village of Waterhoek oppose the construction of a bridge across the Schelde River. Mira (first major role of Willeke van Ammelrooy) teaches them you can’t stop progress.

Rural drama based on Stijn Streuvels's novel De teleurgang van de Waterhoek. The conservative inhabitants of the village of Waterhoek fiercely oppose the construction of a bridge over the River Schelde. From the free and open-minded girl Mira (Willeke van Ammelrooy's first major role) they learn that progress cannot be stopped. Mira's cousin and lover (played by Jan Decleir) even finds this to his cost.
