Film-maker Grietje Keller is named after her grandmother, but instead of being pleased, her grandmother remarked that it 'must be some trick by her son', because Grietje's father did not get on with his own mother. At the same time he had great admiration for her wilful character (his mother was a farmer who ran a large farm on her own). This gave the young Grietje a picture of her grandmother as a wilful and strong woman. In this film Keller tries to find out the truth about her grandmother; she talked to friends and acquaintances of Grandma, but also to Keller's father and his brother. The scenario of Grandma Keller was developed during the scenario workshop of the International Documentary Filmfestival Amsterdam in 1995.
