An actor suffers from a form of progressive aphasia. This documentary shows how he, with his wife – one of the directors - and with courage and humour, takes control of this tragic turn in their lives.
In 2014, the Flemish actor Michel Van Dousselaere is diagnosed with a rare form of progressive aphasia: a brain disorder affecting the speech centre. In this documentary, we see how he copes with his loss of vocabulary. Together with his wife Irma Wijsman, he looks for new ways to express himself, to stay sharp and to make a dignified exit as an actor. By showing the events in the first years after the diagnosis, the film makes clear to what extent language determines our identity.
