Liefdesgasten (Love guests) is a drama about Harry Schoenings, a Limburg potato farmer who is a talented clarinetist in his spare time, who travelled to Poland a few years ago in search of a wife. He met Elisabietha and did indeed marry her. But the marriage did not bring what they both expected. Elisabietha, lonely and never entirely accepted by Harry's family, goes out harvesting asparagus with Polish guest workers, much to the dismay of Harry. He is however unable top prevent his wife having an affair with the young Marek, whom she takes into her house, which is Harry's too.
