Feature film, based on Maria Goos' serial in de Volkskrant, deals with the life of the forty-year-old midwife Anna Jongkind, played by Monic Hendrikx, who has had the ambition to become a writer since her childhood. Although her family has no faith in her writing talent, Anna's trainee spurs her on to commit her life story to paper. In the film, Anna's voice-over tells the story, while present and past constantly alternate. Gradually, traumatic childhood memories unravel, in which the unconditional love between mother and child plays a major role. Writing, Anna finds out that to be able to write, you need to have your life straightened out, which is not the case with her: her youngest daughter threatens to land in the gutter, her marriage has reached a deadlock, she worries about her eldest daughter's heart condition and she collides with her acrimonious mother. After a series of sometimes painful, sometimes hilarious confrontations, Anna yet manages to make order out of chaos and discovers for what and whom she lives.
