Portrait of the Cuban band La Vieja Trova Santiaguera.
They look like five stiff old men until they come on stage and turn on audiences with swinging Cuban sounds and sexy movements. The members of the Cuban band La Vieje Trova Santiaguera average 84 years old and have travelled the globe since they were discovered at a jam session in 1993. Playing a double bass, two guitars, samba balls and claves, the ageing kids seduce their audiences with passionate music about love. In Black Tears, filmmaker Sonia Herman Dolz followed the ageing troubadours for three weeks in Havanna and Santiago and filmed the 'pop stars' on a tour of Europe and during a concert organised especially for the film.
