By chance, director Petra Noordkamp comes across the remarkable spherical Sicilian La Chiesa Madre (Mother Church). The design intrigues her, and the more so when she finds out the Italian architect is the father of a former lover who, bizarrely, murdered his mother. While the filmmaker tells the story in an English voice-over, the images are limited to slow close-ups of the church. To Noordkamp, architecture is like film: in both cases, the spectator’s view is directed.
