People can laugh, but so can animals. The laughter of chimpanzees in its form and sound seems surprisingly like that of humans. For animals, laughter is a way of showing that they do not mean certain behaviour or - from fear - to show that they mean no evil. Just like people who smile. The ethicist Jan van Hooff illustrates the laughter of man and animal with pictures from politics and nature.
