Short documentary about pulling telephone cables across a railway bridge by a group of workers toiling in all weathers. Brief shots, appearing graphic through the use of chiaroscuro, visualise the heroism of this physical craft. The rhythmical editing and highly varied camera angles show the influence of avant-garde filmmakers like Joris Ivens. The film does have a narrative element: one of the workers threatens to get stuck with his shoe between the rails right at the moment when a steam engine approaches him on the bridge.
