Even in old age, expressionist painter Jan Sierhuis is full of spirit and creative urge. Illustrated by his self-portraits, the Amsterdam-born and -bred artist tells his story.
Photographer Marte Visser makes her directing debut with this portrait of painter Jan Sierhuis, who is considered one of the principal Dutch expressionists. Illustrated by his self-portraits, each ushering in a new decade, he jauntily talks about his life and work, simultaneously providing a glance at Dutch art history in the twentieth century. In old age, Jan is still full of spirit and creative urge. You can never break a real artist. "Happiness is doing what you want."
