Marcello works for the secret service of the Italian fascists between the two World Wars. Burdened with childhood memories of a wealthy yet hung-up family and a homosexual experience, he tries to build up a conventional life. Under the guise of a honeymoon, he and his wife leave for Paris to assassinate his former professor on account of his anti-fascist views. Based on a novel by Alberto Moravia. One of the ten films selected by Guest of the Year Frans van Gestel.
